Glasgow Tool Library partner with Dundashill housing developer

Sustainable housing in north Glasgow

We’re excited to announce that we have partnered with housing developers igloo regeneration to provide annual memberships to the 78 new homeowners at the Dundashill site in north Glasgow. Igloo, are housing developers and architects that are committed to building sustainable homes and supporting the local community. The new housing is intended to be low-carbon and designed with the circular economy in mind, with air source heat pumps, solar panels, and water-saving showers.

Igloo approached GTL towards the end of 2023 as they were interested in offering an alternative ‘Welcome Hamper’ for the new homeowners, instead of the regular local beers and produce. Through the tool library, the new homeowners will get access to all the DIY and gardening equipment they will need to turn their houses into homes. Alongside that, they can also hire equipment such as cameras, pizza ovens, and games.

That’s access to 800+ items valued at over £40,000 for the price of some beers and a bottle of wine!

Gary Watt, Development Director at igloo said:

“We’re so happy to be able to give Maltings Wynd residents access to the Glasgow Tool Library. Moving home can be incredibly costly and often, we find ourselves buying expensive tools that we may only use once. Creating a holistic community that champions a circular economy is one of our key drivers when creating a new development, and it’s wonderful to see this come to life through our partnerships with organisations like Glasgow Tool Library.”

Chris Strachan, Co-founder & Director at Glasgow Tool Library added:“It’s fantastic to work alongside igloo to provide residents with access to almost any tool they could ever need. We’ve rented out thousands of items to Glasgow citizens, saving them hundreds of thousands of pounds, and having a positive impact on the environment along the way.”

We think this partnerships like this, with housing developers and housing associations, could provide a great way to support people to save money, reduce their waste and hire lots of useful things that can help people maintain the spaces that matter to them, or start new hobbies that are good for people's mental health and wellbeing.

Glasgow Tool Library provides a range of partnership opportunities and organisational memberships. You can find out more on the partnership page of our website.
